Decatur County EMA Director Robert Duckworth has confirmed County Road 700 Shas reopened following the fertilizer spill.
The substance on the roadway was first reported at 2:48 p.m. on Saturday.
Fire crews, police, EMA and emergency officials closed the road after a leaking tank from a truck caused the spill for approximately a half mile.
First Report (April 28 @ 6:15 a.m.)
A fertilizer spill on Saturday afternoon forced emergency crews to close County Road 700 S in Decatur County until further notice.
The spill was first reported as a slick substance on the roadway coming from a truck traveling in the area. Firefighters and police arrived at the scene to discover the spill was visible for approximately a half mile and was within 100 feet of the Wyaloosing Creek watershed.
The truck hauling the leaking tank was located and is operated by Thompson Farms of C.R. 700 S.
Deputies were able to locate the owner and coordinated a response and cleanup of the 28% Liquid Fertilizer from the road. Total volume is expected to be upwards of 300 gallons.
The roadway is expected to remain closed until cleanup efforts are complete.
