(Milroy, IN) – Jackman’s Animal Clinic celebrated its expansion with a ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon, hosted by the Rush County Chamber of Commerce with an assist from the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce.

The clinic is located at 700 E. Main Street in Milroy.

“We’re a mixed animal practice, so about 50 to 60 percent is small animal, and we’re going to continue to do that in our existing facility, but we also do 40 to 50 percent of large animal,” said Dr. Rob Jackman. “That’s diverse in cattle, sheep, goats, swine, llamas, alpacas, and we also do some captive deer farms.”

Jackman’s Animal Clinic first opened in 1979.

Their brand new, state-of-the-art large animal haul-in facility features the latest technology.

“We built it because, safety for one, we’re going to be able to work on animals in a very safe environment,” Dr. Jackman added. “We’ve got the ability to keep them overnight and doctor them, and help increase our standard of care to the large animals.”

Dr. Jackman says they travel an 80-mile radius to treat farm animals.

“On the large animal side, we’re doing herd health, pregnancy checks, and artificial insemination for all species, but the main nuts and bolts is disease treatment and prevention,” he said. “There’s always outbreaks so we’re dealing with sick animals and dead animals and trying to minimize any of that suffering and so forth.”

Tours of the facility were conducted Thursday, but two open houses are scheduled for those who could not make the ribbon cutting.

The open houses will take place the next two Wednesdays – March 19 and 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. both days.
