Local REMC Takes Teens to DC

(Greensburg, IN) – Decatur County REMC is once again sponsoring students to attend the annual Indiana Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. The 2025 Youth Tour will take place from June 15-22.

High school juniors who will be seniors in the fall of 2025 are eligible to apply for this exciting weeklong trip, with students selected by Decatur County REMC. The Youth Tour brings together a delegation of students from across Indiana to meet and connect with peers from up to 46 other states.

“We’re excited to offer this unique opportunity to our local youth,” said Brett Abplanalp, CEO of Decatur County REMC. “The trip provides students with a chance to see the nation’s capital, make lifelong friends, and learn about how young people can have an impact on the political process.”

Applications for the Youth Tour are available online at indianayouthtour.org and are due by March 3, 2025.

Students selected for the trip will visit several iconic sites, including the Flight 93 Memorial, Gettysburg Battlefield, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Smithsonian museums. They will also tour important memorials such as those dedicated to Jefferson, Martin Luther King Jr., and Franklin D. Roosevelt, and will have the opportunity to meet other students from across the nation.

In addition to the sightseeing, participants will join a youth event hosted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and spend a day on Capitol Hill, where they will meet with Indiana’s congressional delegation to discuss current issues and share their perspectives.
