Two Crashes Shut Down U.S. 52

(Franklin County, IN) – Snowy weather and hazardous conditions are apparently to blame for two unrelated accidents on U.S. 52 south of Brookville, which prompted the closing of 52 from Blue Creek Road to State Road 1 for several hours Thursday.

A tanker rolled over in one of the crashes. The other wreck involved a semi that went off the road and into a field near Orschell’s Curve.

Emergency response efforts were hampered by downed power lines on the road.

Several agencies were called to the scene around 9 a.m., including the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Brookville and Cedar Grove fire departments.

A witness said both drivers escaped injury.

U.S. 52 fully reopened just after 3:30 pm.
