Richard Edward (Dick) Hirt passed away February 3, 2024. He was the son of Edward and Cleopha (Giesting) Hirt, born December 2, 1956. He had six brothers and sisters: Darlene, Dave (Lynn), Denny (Jackie), Doris (Jeffrey) McKee, Donna, and Dale (Mary Hirt-Pfeiffer). He was preceded in death by Edward, Cleo, Dave, and Dale. Dick was a father figure to many nieces and nephews whom he loved spending time with: Natalie, Bart, Tracy, Matt, Stu, Abby, Jon, Lori, Holly, Carrie, Stacey, Travis, & Katelyn. There are now many great-nieces and nephews who knew and loved Dick as well.
Dick was a loving, funny, generous, faithful, and intelligent man. He was a great friend and confidant to many, always willing to lend an ear and help solve various problems. Coincidentally, he was almost always right.
Dick was faithful to his 8 a.m. Sunday mass routine. His strong Catholic faith was the foundation of his identity. Anyone that knew Dick understood that his faith was above all else.
Dick loved a good party, demolition derby’s, sports, old westerns, John Deere’s, and riding around the neighborhood. Dick spent his whole life farming and making a career in the agriculture business, often with family by his side. His greatest passion was his love for his family. Working the family farm, and subsequent farms, thereafter, brought Dick immense joy and pleasure.
Dick will be greatly missed by many. He was a friend to everyone, and never shied away from a good conversation with anyone. Dick was the backbone of his family, and for the past year, the “mayor” of his nursing home. His health gave him tremendous trials, but he always showed grace, strength, faith, and positivity through it all. These were just some of the many lessons which left a lasting impression on us all. His family and friends will be forever grateful for having known him.
