Robert Allan Hoops, 84, a resident of Greensburg, Indiana since 1966, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. Robert was born on June 12, 1939, in Erie, PA to Henrietta and Marion Hoops. He graduated from Fort Wayne Central High School in 1957 and attended Indiana University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physics. While at IU, he met his future wife, Hilda Perrin. The two were married on June 2, 1962. After graduating he went on to work as an engineer with Underwriter’s Laboratory in Northbrook, IL. He soon returned to IU and earned a master’s degree in physics and education. Robert taught high school physics, science, and math for the next 31 years. He retired from Shelbyville High School in 1997.
Robert leaves behind his wife, Hilda, and their two sons: Michael Hoops (Tina) of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Jon Hoops of Houston, TX. He is also survived by a step-grandson; two nephews; and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and elder brother, Richard Hoops of Muncie, IN.
Robert loved to travel and family memories were created during summer driving vacations. Robert, Hilda, Mike, and Jon traveled to all 50 states together. His other hobbies included astronomy, ham radio, and model railroading. He coached little league baseball for several years.
There will be no public services and a private burial will take place in Martinsburg Cemetery in Martinsburg, IN. Memorial contributions can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
