Area volleyball programs came up empty in 1A and 4A sectionals. Rising Sun and Shawe, two ORVC clubs, were the only area teams to make it to Saturday’s finals in those two classes.
The Shiners lost in three games to state number one Trinity Lutheran in three sets at the host Cougars cage: 25-7, 25-11 and 25-15. The Hilltoppers dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Lanesville at Rock Creek: 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 15-25 and 15-6.
Oldenburg was Trinity Lutheran’s first victim at 1A-62. The Twisters also lost in three games: 25-7, 25-10 and 25-8.
OA did pick up a win in round one over Jac-Cen-Del. The Twisters defeated the Eagles in four sets: 25-16, 13-25, 25-15 and 25-21.
Both Oldenburg and Jac-Cen-Del saw improved seasons in 2021 over the year prior.
Meanwhile in Class 4A at Martinsville, East Central fell to Bloomington North in three. The first-round scores were: 25-14, 25-12 and 26-24.
