911 dispatcher helps deliver baby over phone

Greensburg, IN — Early Friday morning, a call came in to Decatur County Communications reporting a female in active labor. Senior Dispatcher Fred Poore immediately dispatched emergency responders and began pre-arrival procedures. Within 3 minutes of answering the call, the caller advised Dispatcher Poore that the baby had just been delivered.

With more than 20 years of fire, EMS, and dispatch experience, Dispatcher Poore will be awarded a Decatur County Communications Stork Pin, which is only awarded to those dispatchers who successfully aid in the delivery of a baby before units arrive on the scene. To date, this is the 1st Stork Pin to be awarded to a dispatcher since the inception of Decatur County Communications in 2016.
