Pollards Poker Run Aids Two Organizations

The first annual Pollards Bowl Poker Run will benefit two community organizations.

Pollards has been in business for forty-two years in Versailles and wanted to give back to the community.

“We thought the two best benefits was Shop with a Cop because it benefits the unfortunate children and the Humane Society because it benefits animals,” said Gina Pollard-Strasser of Pollards Bowl.

Pollard’s Bowl was tabbed as the 2013 family business of the year in Ripley County.

The motorcycle run is on Saturday Sept. 21. Kick stands go up at noon and interested participants can sign-up at 11:00 a.m. at Pollards which is at 1119 S. Main Street in Versailles. The cost is $10 for singles and $15 for doubles.

Vehicles are also welcome to join on the poker run which will feature stops at several Ripley County restaurants. The run will return to Pollards later in the evening for a food and live music by The Over the Edge Band. Riders will get in free.

Janet Orr, weekday manager at the Ripley County Humane Society, praised Pollards Bowl for holding an event that benefits the shelter. “We are forever in-debt,” Orr stated, “Anytime somebody wants to raise money for us we appreciate it very much!”

As a no-kill shelter, the Humane Society survives solely on donations.

Shop With A Cop is a program that benefits children of families in financial hardship.
