Rushville, IN—The Rushville Sherrif’s Department has reported that they have received several reports of telephone scammers calling to attempt to get money from individuals under the presumption that a family member is in legal trouble. The scammers are asking for large sums of money to help said family member pay for legal fees. The scammer continues to make the victim believe that the scammers are the actual family member.
The scammer then asks that the would-be victims send cash money via FedEx to the family member.
The Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the public that it is very difficult, and in most cases impossible, to get money back from scams. Please make your elderly family members aware of such scams!. And please remember not to send money to anyone without verifying the information with other family members.
