Batesville, IN—Safe Passage, Inc. is one of 200 finalists for a sizeable State Farm grant, but needs the communities’ help to advance. In order to win a $25,000 grant from State Farm Neighborhood Assist national program, the domestic and sexual violence shelter and support services for the six-county area needs supporters to go online and vote daily (up to 10 times a day) for the grant.
The voting is nine days, and starts on tomorrow, Aug. 14 and ends Aug. 23. “You don’t have to spend a dime and it’s just a moment or two of your time, but with the click of a button you can help save lives,” said Mary Mattingly, Community Outreach Director for Safe Passage.
The program the nonprofit submitted is for the Rural Mobile Greatest Asset Center. Evidence-based, this program is to expand beyond the shelter to the rural communities, reaching HeadStart, libraries, schools, and other organizations with at-risk youth. Depending on the age, Safe Passage presents asset-building lessons or healthy relationship curriculum. There is no cost to the school or organization and the funding would allow a greater presence in all six counties by supporting staff and materials, such as books, crafts and more, plus a vehicle to cover the 1900 square miles in Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Switzerland, Ripley, and Jefferson Counties. Prevention and education is part of the organization’s mission, with the intent to change the cultural mindset toward ending domestic and sexual violence.
