Sunman, In. — St. Nicholas School seventh grade student, Robbie Steward, earned first place in the Serra Club’s Vocation Essay Contest.

This year’s topic was, ” Who would you tell Pope Francis has influenced your faith journey the most?”

Robbie chose to write about his grandfather, who was able to help raise Robbie and allow his faith to grow by setting an example of a spiritual person in word and deed.

This contest was open to students in grades 7 – 12 throughout the Archdiocese including all Catholic schools and homeschooled students.  Each school could submit two essays for judging.

“We are very excited that Robbie’s heartfelt essay resonated with the committee.  A student from St. Nicholas has won first place the last three out of four years.  That speaks so highly about our commitment to provide quality Catholic education to our students, ” commented Mrs. Kirschner, principal.

Robbie received a plaque and $100 cash prize.
