Lawrenceburg couple accused of causing permanent injuries to eight-week-old

Lawrenceburg, In. — A Lawrenceburg couple is facing serious charges after being accused of abusing their eight-week-old child.  Kaitlin Hussung, 26 and Tyler Hussung, 25, both from Lawrenceburg are each charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of neglect of a dependent with serious bodily injury after police say the couple shook their baby hard enough to cause permanent damage.

On October 12, 2018, the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by a case manager with the Indiana Division of Child Safety after receiving a report of child abuse from Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati.

According to Sheriff’s Deputies, Kaitlin and Tyler Hussung took their eight-week-old son to the Emergency Room at CHMC after he began to seize early on the morning of October 12th 2018. Doctors indicated that the brain bleeding their son was diagnosed with was caused by physical trauma. This diagnosis came after doctors could not find any medical explanation for the brain bleeding other than trauma, caused by abuse.

Through the course of their investigation, Detectives discovered that Kaitlin had communicated with her mother on October 11th while she was babysitting their son. Kaitlin told her mother that she was “overwhelmed” due to their son projectile vomiting, and that she was upset and crying over the situation and about to pull her hair out because she was frustrated with her son.
