The Batesville Bulldogs travelled to Lawrenceburg Thursday evening for their first junior varsity soccer match of the season. The Bulldogs would eventually come away as 2-1 victors.

Lawrenceburg, however, would be the first ones on the score sheet. The first half ended 0-0, but it didn’t take long for Lawrenceburg to find the back of the net.

Only 8 minutes into the second half, the Batesville keeper gathered the ball and threw it to a Batesville midfielder just shy of midfield. Lawrenceburg quickly closed down the Batesville player, stole the ball, and played a through ball to his teammate. The Lawrenceburg counter attack was quick enough that the Batesville keeper hadn’t even had time to get back into position, thus allowing the Lawrenceburg player to pass the ball into the goal to make the game 1-0. With only 10 minutes remaining in the game, Batesville striker Eli Pierson was able to pounce on a mistake by the Lawrenceburg defense, take a couple touches clear of the defense, and dink the ball around the keeper to tie the game up. Then with only 1 minute remaining in the game, Ryan Reder played a ball into the middle to Eli Pierson who was able to turn and take a touch around the defender. Seeing the keeper off his line a bit, Pierson decided to have a go and the ball found the back of the net after a nice chip from about 30 yards out. The game would end 2-1 after a good effort from both teams and two very nicely taken goals from Eli Pierson.
