Lammer’s Pike overpass set to open Monday afternoon

Batesville, In. — Officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation will reopen the Lammer’s Pike bridge that overpasses Interstate 74 southeast of Batesville on Monday, June 4 in the afternoon.  Lanes at the bridge will be restricted to 10-foot widths.

INDOT officials say inclement weather could postpone painting lane lines which would delay the reopening.

The Lammer’s Pike structure closed in mid-April after a state inspection noted the failing condition of a box beam.  After further examination—including load tests—INDOT bridge engineers determined the overpass could safely support traffic by shifting traffic weight away from the faulty support beam.

Lammer’s Pike connects C.R. 1500 and Merkel Road with State Road 46 and the City of Batesville.

Scheduled replacement of the bridge’s superstructure has been moved up to an August 2020 letting date.
