Osgood, In. — The Osgood Volunteer Fire Department helped families in need with a 117 year old tradition this holiday season.
Since 1900, the department has hosted Old Saint Nick at the station to give away nuts, candy and fruit. As numbers began to dwindle firefighters banded together to make the event bigger and better. David Brook and Alex Brison were instrumental in growing the event from 30 children visiting Santa at the station in 2015 to 107 children and 50 families this year.
This year Santa was able to give each child a toy, candy, cookies and hot chocolate. The Osgood American Legion and the Angels of Giving have made key donations of money, coats and gifts for children and families along the way.
Additionally, the department was able to raffle six bicycles, three gas cards and two giant stuffed animals.
