Volunteer firefighter killed in tragic accident

Cannelburg, In. — A southern Indiana volunteer firefighter was killed while responding to a crash Friday night.

Just before 10 p.m. three first responders were arriving at the scene of a crash on U.S. 50 in Daviess County just west of County Road 800 East. A fourth responder, Colby Blake, 26, of Cannelburg, struck a vehicle of another firefighter. Blake’s vehicle continued on and struck the vehicle of firefighter Kendall Murphy. Murphy was standing outside the vehicle and was struck.

Murphy suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation determined firefighter Colby Blake was responding to the scene with a BAC of .21 percent. Blake has been charged with reckless driving and driving while intoxicated causing death, a felony.
