Two local schools recognized for ‘Dual Credit’ excellence

Indianapolis, In. — East Central High School and Franklin County High School were honored along with 130 other schools honored during Monday’s Indiana Dual Credit Recognition Ceremony at the Statehouse.

State Representative Randy Lyness said “It’s encouraging to see students taking their education seriously. “Enrolling in dual-credit courses challenges students academically and better prepares them to enter college. Thank you to the hardworking educators who push our students to succeed, and congratulations to both East Central High School and Franklin County High School.”

The Indiana Department of Education, Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University celebrated the success of these schools, where at least 30 percent of students succeeded in a dual-credit course.

Lyness said dual-credit courses provide students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school, potentially saving future tuition costs. Dual-credit courses are taught by high school or college educators at a high school, college or university, or through online courses. These college-level courses are offered by both state and independent colleges and universities.
