Oldenburg, In. — Recently, 11 communities in and around Senate District 42 received over $4.8 million in local road-funding grants, said State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg).
The Community Crossings Matching Grant program was created in 2016 by the Indiana General Assembly.
Grant recipients in Senate District 42 are as follows:
- Carthage received $61,365
- Connersville received $397,757.26
- Decatur County received $730,569
- Fayette County received $860,719.44
- Henry County received $774,511.50
- Knightstown received $66,057.68
- Ripley County received $833,700
- Rushville received $45,000
- Shelby County received $564,388.64
- Shirley received $124,627.50
- St. Paul received $375,000
“I am pleased so many communities in Senate District 42 will benefit from the Community Crossings Grant program,” Leising said. “Local officials worked hard to apply for these grants, and I am eager to see the impact this funding will have on our local roads and bridges.”
Through the program, INDOT matches up to $1 million when localities invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations below 50,000 and cities and towns with populations below 10,000 are matched 75 percent, while larger counties, cities and towns are matched 50 percent. INDOT selects these communities based on economic impact.
This funding is in addition to the funding for Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) from Indiana’s Next Level Roads plan, which provides $210,053,349 to repair state-maintained roads and bridges in and around Senate District 42 over the next five years.
