Angola, In. — Batesville youth, Amanda Barnhorst recently attended the American Legion Auxiliary, Hoosier Girls State on the campus of Trine University in Angola. She was one of 500 other future leaders that learned about the duties, privileges and responsibilities of citizenship. The program is non-partisan and non-political.
During the week-long event participants participated in mock campaigns that included filing for elected office, developing speeches and campaign materials and party platforms.
Once elected, the officials performed specified duties while those who were not elected were appointed to cabinet positions or encouraged to express their needs as citizens.
Amanda was chosen to attend the event by the Batesville American Legion Auxiliary Unit 271, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Barnhorst.
