BATESVILLE, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Transportation is asking for help from citizens this year to inform them about potholes.
INDOT says that cracks develop in pavement from traffic wear and winter freeze-thaw cycles, and water gets into the cracks and then freezes, which expands they layers of pavement.
As the ice melts and contracts, traffic further loosens the pavement which forms potholes.
To report a pothole on a numbered state route, interstate, or US highway, call the local INDOT district, which for our area is Seymour.
You can call them at 877-305-7611.
You can also complete an online form here.
INDOT will not respond to reports on City Streets or County Roads.
Those reports need to go to the City or County Highway Departments.
