Joyce Marie Jordan was born on December 5, 1942 at her home place in Brookville, the daughter of Thomas and Bessie Wolf Downard. She married Walter M. Jordan on December 9, 1959 at the Bible Baptist Church in Metamora and he preceded her in death on July 28, 2013. Joyce was a homemaker and provided child care both in and out of her home for many children over the years. She was a 50 plus year member of the First Baptist Church in Brookville, taught Sunday school for 42 years was a faithful servant of the Lord who loved sharing his good news. Joyce was an avid walker, and her joy of gardening was awarded with the Beauty Spot of the Month. Her greatest love was spending time with her family, and on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the age of 74, Joyce passed away with loved ones by her side.
Those surviving who will cherish Joyce’s memory include her loving children, Linda (Jackie) Stenger, Scott (Cheri) Jordan, Todd (Tifiney) Jordan and Brenda (Carris) Smith all of Brookville; 9 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way. Several siblings also survive, Ruby Erjavek of Fruitland, FL, Roger (Ruth Ann) Downard of Metamora, Bruce (Kim) Downard of Brookville, Mike Downard of Brookville, Donna (Gary) Cook of Brookville, David (Rosemary) Downard of Metamora, and Gary (Kaye) Gouge, Robert Gouge, and Vickie (Donnie) Bogue all of Cambridge City. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Donnie Downard, Mary Jane Downard, and Timothy Downard.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville and on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 530 Market Street, Brookville. Pastor Michael Holman will officiate the service at 11 a.m. and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
