The City of Batesville has proclaimed September as Youth Soccer Month.
Throughout the month, the city is celebrating the joys and rewards of youth soccer and the positive impact it has on the community.
Batesville’s proclamation is in conjunction with National Youth Soccer Month. Mayor Rick Fledderman was contacted by the state soccer association and a local soccer group to spread the message of youth soccer through a proclamation.
Fledderman said, “Hundreds of local youth participate and we got a great group that organizes it. I think its something the community should be proud of.”
The mayor pointed out how Youth Soccer Month is a good initiative to keep children in the community healthy, regardless of the activity they participate in.
“Whether it be soccer, baseball, basketball or something to do with the arts, it is just great for youth in the community to be involved.”
According to the National Youth Soccer Month website, soccer is the number one youth participation sport in America. This September marks the eleventh year of National Youth Soccer Month.
