Earl Willard Conner, 88, of East Enterprise, IN passed away Saturday, January 23rd, 2016 at his residence.
Earl was born in Cincinnati, OH on April 20, 1927, a son of the late Virginia (Norris) and Willard Conner.
Earl proudly served his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1947 as a Private First Class. Earl was a farmer for many years. After Earl stopped farming he worked as a custodian at East Enterprise Elementary School. On November 12, 1948 he married Ida Mae (O’Conner) Conner. Earl and Ida Mae were married 48 years until her passing on their anniversary on November 12, 1996. Earl was a member of the Patriot Baptist Church, Vevay American Legion and Florence Masonic Lodge. In addition to his country, Earl was a servant to the Switzerland County community. He was a former York Township Trustee, Switzerland County Councilman and Precinct Committeeman. Earl enjoyed hunting, collecting hats and having his dog Bear at his side. For the last several years he was chairman of the “bull” at the liar’s table at the Marathon Station in East Enterprise.
Earl is survived by a daughter, Carol Conner, of East Enterprise, IN; a son, Michael Conner, of East Enterprise, IN; a grandson, Michael Stivers (Mindy) of Scottsburg, IN; by 2 great grandchildren, Hunter and Kennedy Stivers and by a niece, Deborah Cruz of Quercus Grove, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Ida Mae and by his brother Norris Lee Conner.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM, Thursday, January 28th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Rev. Mike Jones officiating. Friends are invited to call Thursday 11-1 at Markland Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, IN.
