Batesville, In. — June 6, 2018 is the 74th Anniversary of D-Day that began the Battle of Normandy. One of the largest amphibious invasions ever began today and included more than 150,000 troops from the United States, Canada, Britain and other allies.

The forces landed on five beach areas along 50-miles of French coastline. The operation included more than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft.

By the end of D-Day, 9,000 soldiers gave their lives so the force of 100,000 troops could begin the slow fight to drive German forces from Western Europe.
