Alta Ann Holcomb, 85, of Versailles passed away at 3:30 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Traditions of Lebanon in Lebanon, Ohio. She was born in the Marble Corner community in Ripley County, now part of the Jefferson Proving Ground, on November 17, 1939, the daughter of John and Georgia McDonnell Adams. She was married to Dennis “Pete” Holcomb on November 5, 1954, and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2014. Survivors include one son Dennis “Pete” Holcomb of Versailles; one daughter Denise (Wendell) Tewmey of Lebanon, Ohio; four grandchildren Chet (Katie) Tewmey of Lebanon, Ohio, Cody (Laura) Tewmey of Ft. Worth, Texas, Derick (Misty) Holcomb of Lawrenceburg, and Dane (Kayla) Holcomb of Georgetown, Kentucky; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister Stella Dobson of Rising Sun; sister-in-law Jo Adams of Fairfax, Virginia; brother-in-law Dean (Lila) Holcomb of Westport. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter-in-law Marcia Holcomb, her brothers John, Edward, Dale, and Grover Adams, and her sisters Betty Stickelman and Velma Browning. Mrs. Holcomb attended school at Holton. She was a former employee of US Shoe in Osgood and retired as a sales associate at Wal-Mart. She enjoyed gardening and baking and she and Pete enjoyed bowling and racing and training standard bred horses. Alta was a member of the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary and the Dabney Baptist Church where she enjoyed participating in the Christmas Shoe Box ministry. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 12 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Troy Green officiating. Burial will be in the Marble Corner Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Dabney Baptist Church or Marble Corner Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
