Kenneth “Kenny” A. Huffmeyer, age 90, of Osgood passed away early March 3, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 7, 1927, the son of the late Herman and Sena (Klingworth) Huffmeyer outside of Osgood. He grew up in a household with his parents and seven siblings. He was a graduate of the Napoleon High School Class of 1946. He was known to all of us as Kenny, but his mother always called him Kenneth. Kenny, in his teenage years, was active in 4-H and as a young adult took part in the 5 Acre Corn contest in Ripley County.
Kenny had several loves and passions in his life. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and this led him to meet Jane Ricketts and they were married on August 25, 1951, and they recently celebrated their 66th year of marriage. When you want to think about the American Dream and living it out, they built a family and home thru diligence and hard work. They lived outside of Napoleon and purchased their first farm in 1953 and lived on it until building a new home and moving in it in 1985. The bond between these two remained as strong as ever up until the very end.
Kenny’s heart and soul was being a farmer, raising both crops and livestock. He lived by the theory that if the sun was up, then there was something to do. He was indeed a steward of the land, being one of the very first in the area to practice no-till farming. He was awarded the Ripley County Soil and Water Conservation Farmer of the Year. His membership in the church saw him involved in teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and served several terms on the church council. He was also a member of the local Farm Bureau.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Jane, son Larry (Charlene), daughter Lavita Huffmeyer (Tom Godar) of Osgood, grandchildren; April (Jeremy) Hughes of Osgood, Sara (Jeff) Page of Trafalgar, Amber (Eric) Peetz of Batesville, and Bill (Julie) Huffmeyer of Osgood, and great grand children; Kasin, Landin, Braydin, and Lynkin and Addysin Hughes, Samual and Emmett Page, Jackson and Ella Peetz, and August and Clay Huffmeyer.
He was preceded in death in by his parents, and siblings Mabel Lauber, Helen Schulenburg, Mildred Oller, Martha Hartwell, Calvin Huffmeyer, Elnora VansOsdol, and Norman Huffmeyer.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, March 5, 2018, at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Napoleon at 11:00 am., with the body lying in state from 10:00 am. until service.
