AURORA, Ind. — South Dearborn’s petition race begins today.
The school district proposed a $9.76 million upgrade and renovation project at the high school, that would build a new multi-purpose building, add an artificial turf football field, expand and updated the school auditorium, add a window between the gym and the cafeteria, and replace floors and ceiling tiles.
The project would require a tax increase, and some taxpayers had started a petition to block the project.
The board voted last month to proceed with the project, but since the petition had enough signatures, the vote prompted a petition and remonstrance process.
Each side must now obtain signatures on petitions, and at the end of 30 days, the side with the most signatures will prevail.
Forms can be picked up at the Dearborn County Clerks Office.
