Woman Accused of Stealing Truck, Debit Card

DECATUR COUNTY, Ind. – Police arrested a Waldron woman Monday after a resident reported a stolen truck and debit card from a Decatur County home.

Investigators say it isn’t the first time the female suspect has had a brush with the law.

Police allege 37-year-old Brandy Garner stayed overnight at a friend’s home before stealing the homeowner’s debit card and a relative’s truck, according to the Greensburg Daily News.

The victims were unable to contact Garner by phone after the incident took place.

A Decatur County deputy responding to a call 9 miles west of Greensburg spotted the vehicle and the suspect the next morning. Garner told the officer that she had permission to use the vehicle and debit card, which the victim’s disputed, the newspaper reports.

Police arrested Garner on suspicion of auto theft and theft and she was booked at the Decatur County Jail.

Court documents show Garner has prior convictions for theft in Shelby and Marion counties. If convicted, prosecutors could pursue a harsher sentence classifying the suspect as a habitual offender.
