Versailles Teen Injured In Hunting Incident

A hunting incident sent a teen to the hospital with injuries Friday night.

According to Indiana Conservation Officers, three teenagers were raccoon hunting near Cross Plains when one of the boys dropped a .22 caliber rifle causing it to discharge. The bullet struck the victim’s left thigh.

The victim was transported to King’s Daughters Hospital in Madison where the bullet was removed from just under the skin and he was released.

Authorities did not release the identities of the those involved, but did confirm that the incident is under investigation. Conservation Officers were assisted at the scene by the Ripley County Sheriffs Office.

DNR officials encourage the use of safe firearm handling techniques and to never lean firearms against any surface while loaded.
