Versailles Fire Department responded to alarm at South Ripley

south-ripley-4x3VERSAILLES, Ind.  — The Versailles Fire Department was called to South Ripley Elementary School on Monday afternoon regarding a fire alarm.

The alarm was called into Ripley County dispatch around 1:00 PM.

According to South Ripley Superintendent, Rob Moorhead, school personnel followed all safety protocols, and the students were evacuated from the elementary school school and moved across the road to the high school.

The Versailles and Osgood Fire Departments responded and conducted a thorough check of the building to ensure that there was no fire.

Fire officials say the alarm had malfunctioned and created a false alarm.

After the all clear was given by the fire department, the students returned back to the elementary school, and classes continued.

Superintendent Moorhead said in a statement, “Thanks to all fire department and emergency personnel who responded during this event. It is reassuring to know that our safety personnel are that close by and capable of such a quick response. The safety of our students is our top priority and all necessary steps were taken today to ensure our students’ safety.”
