Slick roads cause solo-car crash in Versailles

VERSAILLES, Ind. – A Ripley County man was hospitalized after a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 50 thru East Park Hill in Versailles Saturday morning.

Around 4:10 a.m., deputies responded to the accident that involved a 1986 GMC pickup driven by Thomas Chandler, 45, of Milan.

Crash investigators say the driver lost control due to poor road conditions and spun around striking a guard rail. The vehicle ramped over the rail and landed on its side wedged against a tree over an embankment.

Chandler was pinned inside the vehicle and Versailles firefighters had to extract him from the vehicle.

He was rushed to Margaret Mary Health for injuries and was listed in stable condition.

Assisting agencies included the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Versailles Fire/Rescue, Versailles Town Police, Rescue 69, Ripley County Paramedic.
