Rushville agents assist in multi-state drug bust

Over $740,000 worth of drugs were taken off the street.
Police in Hamilton County say they seized 6.5 pounds of heroin.

CINCINNATI, Ind. – Authorities in Rushville and Cincinnati seized $740,000 worth of heroin and cocaine as part of an ongoing investigation into a multi-state drug ring.

In the past six months, Rushville Detectives and Agents from the Regional Narcotics Unit (RENU) discovered information about a group of people selling drugs in the Cincinnati area.

Investigators say they found out the drug proceeds were being brought into Rush County before being sent out California to members of the same organization.

On Tuesday, six people were arrested when they arrived in Rushville allegedly with a large amount of money.

They are Brian Shephard Jr., Larry Harris, Alfonzo Sullen, Ion Barnett, all of Cincinnati, along with Kareem Allateef, of Lincoln Heights, Ohio, and Stacie Jenkins of Kentucky.

Each person was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

Police in Cincinnati searched a Colerain Township apartment, calling it the organizations primary distribution point. They say they recovered 6.5 pounds of heroin, 4.2 pounds of cocaine, several guns and a large amount of money.

Brian Shephard Sr., of Cincinnati, was arrested in Ohio and is facing felony drug and weapons charges.

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil said the organization was responsible for distributing approximately 106 pounds of heroin and cocaine throughout the Tri-State in the past eight months.

Detectives say they are keeping the investigation open and looking into additional members of the organization.
