North Decatur Varsity VB Season Scores

We play Southwestern (Hanover) Thursday night at 6 PM. We have not played them this year, so I am a little concerned about the girls taking them lightly or even being overly nervous due to the pressure to repeat last year’s championship.

With that being said, I am excited about the way the Lady Chargers are playing right now. We are blocking well and forcing even the best teams, like Lawrenceburg, to hit around the block. As our defense and serve receive improve, we are in system more often. Thus, we are improving offensively as well. Kaitlin Herbert and Sarah Bohman are hitting the ball harder with more accuracy than they were earlier in the season. Samantha Krieger, Olivia Siefert, Anna Schwering, and Chelsi Schubert have all improved their blocking and hitting accuracy so that our team stats in blocks and kills have increased.

This is all a direct result of our defensive improvement. Mary Hughes is the key to the team. She has grown into the libero role and is taking charge of defensive coverage, free balls, and serve receive. Switching Mary to libero from being the starting setter on last year’s sectional championship team may have seemed risky, but having her on the court all the time has been the difference in our growth this year. Baili Ewing and Kaitlin Herbert are also keys to our defensive improvement. Another key has been the growth in the defensive play of our setters, Laura Haunert and Kiley Stier. Samantha Krieger’s secondary setting in those situations has also improved greatly.

The sectional team is rounded out by Allie Louder and Morgan McKinney, who have come in the front row rotation to hit and block well. Morgan Nobbe and Meredith Fogle also have contributed to our back row rotations as well as serving as our back up setters.

All of the Lady Chargers have been serving well with a team serve percentage of nearly 94%. Anna Schwering and Mary Hughes have been leading in points won while Mary and Kaitlin Herbert are leading in Aces.

The winner of the North Decatur vs. Southwestern (Hanover) match plays the winner of the other Thursday night match of South Ripley vs. Switzerland County. That semi-final match will be on Saturday morning at 11 AM.
