New website allows Hoosiers to check for BMV refunds

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles just launched a website that allows customers to determine if they are eligible for an Excise Tax refund.

The agency announced in October that it began sending out notifications for eligible customers.

“All of those letters have been mailed. In case someone did not receive their letter, the BMV has created a website that allows Hoosiers to verify their eligibility and print a claim form that includes mailing instructions,” said BMV commissioner Don Snemis.

BMV officials ask customers to access the refund eligibility page by visiting mybmv.com and clicking on the green “Check Your Excise Tax Refund Eligibility” icon on the right-hand side of the home page.

Users will enter either their social security number or their driver’s license number.

The refund is due to a miscalculation that affects approximately 180,000 people and totals upwards of $29 million.
