Major Ground Beef Recall Underway

A recall of 1.8 million pounds of ground beef is underway as officials fear the meat could be contaminated with E. coli.

The ground beef was manufactured by a Michigan company between March 31 and April 18 and sold to restaurant distributors in four states including neighboring Ohio.

The possible contaminated product has not been linked to Indiana.

Health officials say the best way to reduce the risk is to avoid ordering undercooked hamburger such as asking the server for a burger cooked at 160 degrees.

The ground beef subject to recall have the established number of “EST. 2574B” will have a production date code listed as “”Packing Nos: MM DD 14″ between “03 31 14” and “04 18 14.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said 11 people have contracted the disease.

E. coli can cause severe cramps, nausea and diarrhea, as well as other complications.
