Aurora man arrested after attempted robbery from drug dealer

arrest2LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. — An Aurora man has been arrested after police say he fired a gun during an attempt to rob a drug dealer.

Police say that four people traveled to Lawrenceburg to an abandoned home on the 200 block of East High Street.

Matthew Hartoford, 21, was one of four involved in the incident.

Police say that Hartford and another male tried to steal 1.5 ounces of marijuana from the dealer, while the driver and a passenger drove to a parking garage nearby and waited.

During the attempted robbery, a fight occurred.

During the fight, a gun fell out of Hartford’s pants.

During a struggle over the gun, it fired and everyone fled the scene.

Multiple witnesses reported hearing two gunshots.

The 2 ran to the waiting car and left the scene.

Lawrenceburg officers stopped the vehicle on US 50 in Greendale.

Police found several firearms in the car and on Hartford.

Hartford was arrested on charges of Carrying a Handgun without a License, Criminial Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon, and Disorderly Conduct.
