Area students attending IUPUI will soon see construction around campus. The college will use $30 million to upgrade streets around the area and the swimming facility.

City and college officials say the goal is to allow better access between the college and downtown Indianapolis.

A portion of the project will go toward making a section of Michigan and New York streets available for two-way travel. Construction efforts will allow for safer walking and biking travel for students.

The road construction is projected to start next year.

Plans are also underway to upgrade the swimming facility. The IUPUI Natatorium was opened in 1982 and will host the U.S. Olympics diving trials in 2016.
