Westport, IN — A woman is dead following a motorcycle accident near Westport.
Witnesses told Decatur County Sheriff’s deputies that a motorcycle was southbound on State Road 3 near South County Road 800 West when the bike left the side of the road in a curve and slid into a ditch.
When deputies arrived on the scene, members of the Westport Volunteer Fire Department were providing emergency medical attention to 60-year-old Stephanie Freeman of Alexandria, Indiana, who was unconscious. Freeman was flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, where she later died from her injuries.
The sheriff’s office says Freeman was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
No one else was injured in the accident, which remains under investigation.
