(Versailles, IN) – A woman is in custody following a shots fired incident near a local school.

The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says shortly before 2:30 Monday afternoon, Lt. Adam Hunger responded to a call in which a woman was reportedly shooting a weapon from her vehicle at South Benham Road and East County Road 300 South.

Lt. Hunger investigated what is believed to be a domestic dispute involving two vehicles.

Investigators say 29-year-old Mercedes Boyd was traveling behind the first vehicle and allegedly fired a handgun in the direction of that vehicle.

No one was injured as a result of at least one shot being fired.

A traffic stop was initiated on South Benham Road near the South Ripley Schools campus, which prompted the district to issue an alert to parents.

Less than six minutes after the initial call came in, Boyd was safely detained without incident by sheriff’s deputies, Indiana State Police troopers and the Versailles Police Department.

She was taken to the Ripley County Jail and is facing preliminary charges of Criminal Recklessness with a Firearm (Level 6 felony), Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia.
