William “Bill” Eugene Steinard, age 88 of Blooming Grove

William “Bill” Eugene Steinard, 88, of Blooming Grove, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Heritage House Healthcare Center in Connersville, Indiana.

Born and raised on the family farm in Franklin County, Indiana, where he lived for much of his life. Bill was born on September 26, 1937, the cherished son of Wilkie and Beatrice “Dora” Steinard (née Friend). Bill was a farmer for most of his life. He enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves in 1960 and served until 1966. During that time, he was called to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. On April 9, 1966, he married Beverly Shockey at First Christian Church in Brookville, and they shared 31 years of marriage before her passing in 1997. On October 10, 1998, Bill married Ivory Steinard (née Hines), and they shared over 27 years of happy marriage. Bill dearly loved his grandson, Dylan, whom he helped raise. He was a member of the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years and served as a board member of the Franklin County Farmers Mutual Insurance Agency.

Survivors include his wife of over 27 years, Ivory Steinard of Blooming Grove; stepdaughter, Melanie White and her longtime partner David Sweney, Jr. of Connersville; grandson, Dylan Sweney of Blooming Grove; nephew, Dale Hess of Griffith; close cousin Margie Redd of Brookville; and cousin Marilyn Rosenberger of Brookville. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Wilkie and Beatrice Steinard; sister Maxine Steinard Hess; brother-in-law Jay Hess; two nephews, Donald and Charles Hess; as well as his first wife Beverly Shockey Steinard.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home of Brookville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Bernerd Hurst Post #77.
