Both the boys and girls Batesville High School Cross Country teams came home with the championship trophy after competing in the 8 team Moores Hill Invitational Saturday morning.
The girls left no doubt in the minds of those watching as they had all of their varsity 7 runners in the top 15 and winning by 41 points. Batesville scored 28 points with Columbus East coming in 2nd at 69. They were closely followed by East Central with 73 points. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Sophomore Ava Hanson who took runner up with a time of 20:25. Madison Rahschulte was the next blue uniform to cross the line in 4th, followed closely by teammate Maria Lopez in 6th. Sophie Myers took 6th, Lily Pinckley 9th, Megan Allgeier 10th, and Trysta Vierling 12th.
On the boys side, it was a little bit closer as the top 3 teams were fighting positions throughout the race, but the Bulldogs managed to squeak ahead winning by just 4 points with a score of 43 points to Austin’s 47 and Greenfield-Central’s 51 points. Our top 3 runners ran very strong as we captured 1st, 2nd and 4th place. The Dogs were led by Juniors Ean Loichinger crossing the finish line first at 16:37 and followed by teammate Benjamin Moster at 16:48. Senior Adam Hollowell raced in at 17:03 to take 4th. Finishing out the top 7 varsity runners for Batesville were Eli Loichinger in 16th, Nathan Villani 20th, Dillon Murray 30th and Kyler Daulton 32nd.
On the JV side, although there weren’t team scores or ribbons, the girls were led by Juniors, Carley Pride coming in 1st and Katie Olsen 2nd.
Although the temperature was not quite so hot, the air was still pretty thick, but several Bulldogs did not let that stop them from running personal bests. They were: Benjamin Moster, Adam Hollowell, Eli Loichinger, Kyler Daulton, Landon Gutzwiller, Sean Callahan, Megan Allgeier and Ella Moster. Way to go everyone!!!

Oldenburg Twisters Boys VarsitySoccer team defeated The Trinity Lutheran Saints 3-0.
Race Carle got the twisters started with a beautiful half diving head shot that went into the net but was unfortunately called off-sides and did not count. Race did, however, keep the momentum going and scored in period 1 at 11:43 on a quick one-touch shot at the top of the 18, assisted by Charles Furlow. The Trinity keeper may have been a little surprised the ball was coming. Race scored again in period 2 at the 31:16 mark on a header that was assisted by Nick Folop’s header from a Sam McFee corner kick. Race score again in period 2 at 6:58 for a Hat Trick; he was assisted by Josh Newman’s through ball into the 18. Another beautiful play by the Twisters.
Coach Getz said after the game, “With each game played we are starting to get a feel of where our teammates are on the field. It was nice to see some balls finally find the back of the net. It has been a struggle so far this year. We had 20 players dressed and they all got to see some action. Great to see some of the younger boys get some varsity experience. They did not disappoint as they kept the pace up and had a few great scoring chances.”

ECVB Varsity traveled to Bloomington South on Saturday for a variation of their annual invitational. With a couple of teams dropping out, we collectively decided to just play 3 matches and call it a day rather than playing a full-blown tournament. This allowed them to avoid teams and fans crossing over and made it easier for the staff to sanitize.
We started the day against Covenant Christian. We started off slow and found ourselves in a pretty big hole. When we finally started playing, it was a little too late, but we took the momentum into game two. Set three was up and down and could have gone in either team’s favor, but we were able to close out the match with the scores of 21-25, 25-20, 18-16.
The second match we played Trinity Lutheran, a team that lost very few players from their state runner-up team from last year. They were very disciplined and relied heavily on their experience. We lost a quick match 13-25 & 15-25.
The final match was a flip of the first match. We started off decent against Seymour and was able to steal the lead midway through the game to come out on top, but we completely fell apart in set two- nothing was going our way. We found ourselves fighting for every point in set three, even when things weren’t going our way. We pulled out the win 25-22, 11-25, & 15-12.
We finished the day 2-1 and are now 5-2 on the season. Next up: at Franklin County tomorrow.
