(Franklin County, IN) – Denny Walter has announced his candidacy for Franklin County Council District 4 as a Republican.

Walter says he is committed to fiscal responsibility, protecting farmland, and preserving the values that define the community.

He was born and raised in Franklin County, the son of Carl and Barbara Walter.

Walter says he grew up with his three brothers and four sisters working on the family farm in Whitewater Township — land that has been in their family for generations which he continues to work today.

Walter attended St. Michael’s School and graduated from Franklin County High School in 1995 before going to Indiana University, where he majored in education. He is currently a math and computer science teacher.

Walter has four children and is an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Brookville.

“My roots run deep here,” said Walter. “I was raised to value hard work, faith, and responsibility. Growing up on a generational family farm taught me the importance of stewardship — not just of the land, but of our community.”

Walter says he’s concerned about the expansion of large-scale solar projects on agricultural land.

“I believe the most beautiful part of our county is the farmland,” Walter said. “I don’t want to see that tarnished by acres of solar panels. They do not belong in our agricultural fields that not only supply us with food but, for many families, provide a way of life. We should be proud of the beauty of Franklin County and work to preserve it for future generations.”

Walter says he believes strongly in living within his means.

“When you raise four kids on a teacher’s salary, you learn discipline and how to prioritize what truly matters,” Walter said. “County government should operate the same way — living within its means, spending responsibly, and respecting taxpayers.”

Walter says his campaign priorities include:

  • Responsible and transparent budgeting
  • Protecting agricultural land and rural character
  • Thoughtful development decisions
  • Preserving Franklin County’s heritage and way of life

“I’m running to ensure that the Franklin County my children grow up in is the same one I was blessed to grow up in,” Walter said. “Our heritage matters, and it’s worth protecting.”
