Virginia L. Stewart, age 87 of Batesville, died Sunday December 11, 2022 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. Born January 26, 1935 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Leona Nauert and Joseph Suding. She married James Mellene August 21, 1954 at St. Louis Church and he preceded her in death July 14, 1984.
Jinny worked 15 years as an administrative assistant for the Indianapolis State Police and 10 years in sales for Home Interiors, Incorporated. She had many varied interests she loved doing in her free time, most of them involved social gatherings. Card clubs with her many friends, travel adventures by way of buses and boats, finding new places to visit and experience, all of which meant excitement and wonderful memories. Jinny also enjoyed crafting, was an avid flower gardener and cooking was a passion. Cooking also meant a party and a gathering of family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters Madonna Loudermilk of New Palestine, Indiana, Kathleen Montgomery of Greenfield, Indiana; sons Timothy Mellene of Fairland, Indiana, Steven Mellene of Greenfield, Indiana; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband James Mellene, former husband Nick Stewart and son-in-law Paul Loudermilk.
Visitation is Tuesday, December 27th from 2 – 5 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests attendees where a mask. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 28th at St. Louis Church with Rev. Stan Pondo officiating. A private burial will be held at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis. The family requests memorials to Safe Passage or the Batesville Historical Society.
