Virginia Abplanalp

Virginia Valene (nee Rose) Abplanalp, 89, passed away on August 23, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born on August 28, 1932 in Milan, Indiana  and lived the rest of her life in Sunman. She was the youngest of 16 children born to Henry Clay and Dora Lou (nee Sebastian) Rose.

As a teenager, she worked in her father’s store in Sunman and took the train to Cincinnati where she worked for multiple prominent individuals doing various jobs, including cooking. This was all before she met and married the love of her life, Elwin Abplanalp.

Virginia will be loved and remembered for her beautiful paraments she made for area churches, her delicious meals that she blessed many with, and her loving and caring nature toward her children and grandchildren. Virginia’s love of the Lord motivated her to seek out and marry a Godly man and live a life worshipping the Lord.

Virginia is survived by her husband of 70 years, Elwin; daughters, Diana (Doug) Haldeman and Lisa (John) Hooten; sons, Larry (Kaye) Abplanalp and Mark (Margie) Abplanalp.

She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Kelley Haldeman, Kristafer (Aleve) Abplanalp, Kerri (Mark) Nakoff (nee Haldeman), Wesley Abplanalp (Sarah), Ryan (Jesse) Haldeman, Katie (David) Schneider, Brittany Hooten (Harry), Jennifer (Ryan) Gullion, Joshua (Alexandra) Hooten, Mandy (Christian) Salzmann; and great grandchildren, Kayelee Schneider, Sproston and Otis Abplanalp, Kauai Schneider, Alesia LaBazzo, and Evan Haldeman.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM with funeral services officiated by Pastor Adam Boesken beginning at 11:00 AM all at Sunman Community Church. Burial will follow immediately after at St. Paul Cemetery in Sunman.

Memorials may be given to Sunman Community Church by bringing to services or mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
