Vernon L. Norman, 88, of Milan passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. Vernon was born on Sunday, March 15, 1936, in Dearborn County; son of Alvin and Dora (Hampton) Norman. Vernon was a master auto body painter, over the road truck driver, and did UPS rush deliveries. He enjoyed playing music, especially stringed instruments, singing, going to blue grass festivals, and was known to be a master storyteller. Vernon also loved to travel and especially loved his dogs.
Vernon will be missed by his sons Doug (Terri) Norman of Milan and Tony (Lisa) Vermillion of Deputy; daughters Debra (Mike) Bischoff of Guilford, Teresa Bailey of Versailles, and Sherri Schmidt of Texas; grandchildren Cheryl (Leon) Boggs, Jason (Katie) Bailey, Shawn Haase, Crystal (Matthew) Ryan, Trena Walker, Doug (Charlotte) Norman, Curtis (Missy) Schmidt, Matthew Bailey, Daryl Schmidt, Joshua (Ashley) Kessler, Danessa (Nathan) Furnish, Brandon Vermillion, Kristen Vermillion, and Tiffany (Darius) Wilking; as well as 27 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Dora Norman; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; and grandson Gregory Norman.
Family and friends may gather in remembering Vernon from 10:00-11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. A service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow at Akers Cemetery in Friendship. Memorials may be given in honor of Vernon to the House of Cherith, (a halfway house for women, being built in Milan).
