Vernon B. Raver

Vernon B. Raver, age 79 of Oldenburg, died Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at his home. Born February 10, 1943 in Batesville, he is the son of Laurene (Nee: Struewing) and George Raver. He married Julianne Lamping June 8, 1968 at St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg. A teacher, Vernon taught Social Studies 23 years at East Central High School and nine years at St. Louis School as well as coaching basketball.

Faith was an important part of Vernon’s life. He attended Duns Scotus College of the Friars for one year before changing career directions and going on to earn a Bachelor’s and then a Master’s degree in education from Xavier University. He attended mass daily and was indispensable to the church. He’s been a Lector and Eucharistic Minister over 50 years and after retiring from teaching, he served twenty years as Sacristant/Server for mass and funeral masses, took care of Sacristy supplies in addition to a host of other duties and details. When his health prevented him continuing, it took several people to replace him. Vernon was a HUGE Cubs and Purdue fan. Following the Chicago Cubs and Purdue sports on T.V. and radio was a true passion of his. He was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association, the John Purdue Club and as a staunch democrat, the Democratic National Committee.

He is survived by his wife Julie; brother Glenn Raver of Oldenburg; a niece and two nephews. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother Ron Raver. Visitation is Monday, April 4th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 5th at Holy Family Church with Rev.
