(Franklin County, IN) – Make it three area counties with mosquito samples that have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
Franklin County is now on the list from the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH).
Positive tests were previously found in Ripley and Dearborn counties.
None had been found in Decatur County as of Friday morning.
It is recommended that you take precautions against mosquito bites to reduce the risk of contracting West Nile and other diseases caused by mosquito-borne viruses.
These include getting rid of breeding grounds by eliminating standing water; using bug repellant spray when outside and wearing pants and long sleeve shirts, particularly if you are in the woods.
There are now four confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus across the state. Those are in Marion, Hamilton, Wells and Vanderburgh counties.
You can view the IDOH dashboard to track human transmission of West Nile by clicking here.
The dashboard is refreshed every Tuesday and Friday.
