Two killed, two hurt in rail crossing accidents this week

Bartholomew County Crash

Batesville, In. — In Bartholomew County Monday at 11:45 p. m. a report from the Indiana State Police says a car driven by Joshua Kelso, 30, was eastbound on County Road 900 North near County Road 250 East in Bartholomew County.  Kelso disregarded a stop sign and crossed into the path of a Louisville-Indiana Railroad train consisting of two engines only.

The train collided with the driver’s side of the vehicle.  The force pushed the Jeep down the tracks before it left the tracks and rolled over before coming to a stop. Kelso and a backseat passenger, Justice M. Llewellyn, were both killed. The front seat passenger, Myranda Akers, age 26, was ejected from the vehicle and flown to Methodist Hospital with serious injuries.

arms at U.S. 136 and County Road 900 East. The unidentified driver was taken to an Indianapolis-area hospital with serious injuries.

The train was traveling at 60-miles-per-hour with 91 passengers. The train did not derail and no injuries were reported.
