Two Flown From Car vs. Motorcycle Wreck

(Decatur County, IN) – Two people were flown to the hospital following a car vs. motorcycle accident on the 55-hundred block of North State Road 3 early Sunday evening.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says the preliminary investigation indicates a car driven by 18-year-old Saylor Scripture of Greensburg was stopped on northbound 3 shortly after 5:30 p.m., waiting for a farm tractor in front of her to turn left at 5625 North State Road 3.

A motorcycle collided with the back of Scripture’s car as she was preparing to accelerate after the tractor made its turn.

Witnesses say the motorcycle laid down on its side just prior to impact.

The motorcycle driver, 25-year-old John Austin Jacobi of Rushville, and his passenger, 27-year-old Vanessa Tuell of North Vernon, were both flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with non-life-threatening injuries.

One of the medical helicopters landed at North Decatur High School while the other went to Decatur County Memorial Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

Deputies were assisted by Decatur County Communications, the City of Greensburg Fire Department, Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department, Decatur County EMS, Statflight 5 and Statflight 2.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office reminding drivers that this is the time of year when farm machinery is on the roadways, and that motorists need to be aware and drive accordingly for everyone’s safety.
